DHP welcomes Peter Thomas

Digital Health Professionals are excited to announce that Peter Thomas is joining our team as Chief Medical Officer.

Peter Thomas is a board-level digital health leader and consultant paediatric eye surgeon. He currently serves as Chief Clinical Information Officer at Moorfields Eye Hospital where he works to transform care at a system level by leveraging remote care, data-driven analytics, and service innovations that improve both connectedness and quality of care. As the national digital/clinical lead for ophthalmology since 2021, Peter has played a key role in shaping digital health work through NHSx, NHS Digital, and NHS England. He also continues to guide the development of OpenEyes, an exemplar open-source electronic medical record for ophthalmology now managing over 3 million patient records.

In addition to his ongoing work at Moorfields, Peter has consulted for investors and major pharmaceutical companies on digital health and acted as an expert witness in high-profile MedTech cases. His research in clinical informatics, artificial intelligence, and remote monitoring has driving innovation in patient care pathways. Peter’s contributions to healthcare have been recognized through numerous awards, including being named "CCIO of the Year" in the 2022 Digital Health Awards.

Peter is joining Digital Health Professionals as Chief Medical Officer alongside his NHS work because he recognizes the immense value of providing expert input from seasoned clinicians who have lead real-world innovation and impact using technology. With his extensive experience scaling digital health solutions, Peter is dedicated to helping organizations successfully navigate the complexities of healthcare transformation or ensure that their digital products are safe, effective, and implementable.
